| This is not roots music but the result of roots music. The members of Nite Café, Denny Hall and Judy Wayenberg, along with their guests Joel Tepp and Dan Wilson, have collectively (some individually) studied most forms of American traditional music. You can hear touches of blues, zydeco, old country, and jugband in their music. If it’s not on this album, it will be on the next. This recording is all acoustic, but, with bass and drums, it has the drive of a modern band. You can hear the sounds of vintage instruments contemporary with the roots music that inspired the songs. |
